2022 Emmy Predictions: Supporting Actor (Drama Series)

Since 2021, winner of an Emmy for Best Actor in a Dramatic Supporting Role Tobias Menzies gave his role as “The Crown” to Jonathan Price, he will not have the opportunity to defend his title this year. Indeed, nearly everyone he has competed against is ineligible this time around, with Chris Sullivan (“This Is Us”) being the only one of the group of eight who could receive a consecutive offer for the same series. Although he can no longer be nominated this year for “The Mandalorian”, Giancarlo Esposito could still land in the lineup with his third offering for “Better Call Saul.” If he does, he can face his partner, Jonathan Banks, a second time. Other alumni seeking recognition this year are Marc Duplass (“The Morning Show”), David Harbor (“Stranger Things”) and the trio “Succession” Nicholas Brown, Kieran Culkinand Matthew Macfadyen. Duplass co-star Steve Carellalso shows up in support after being named as the lead in 2020.

The only former winner currently in the running for another trophy for the same performance is Billy Crudup (“The Morning Show”). Actors seeking deals for new drama series include John Turturro (“Break”), Owen Wilson (“Loki”) and the teammates of “Squid Game” Heo Sung-tae, Oh Yeong-sooand Hae-soo Park.
