For many people, browsing Netflix can often feel like a minefield – so much content, an algorithm that sometimes locks you in, and an endless list of new releases to watch. What a predicament to be in as a TV lover, right?
Due to the nature of the streaming platform, there are often times when many shows pass under your radar. When it comes to true crime, Netflix has established itself as the one-stop-shop for documentaries, dramas, and movies, but some are overlooked by even the biggest crime buffs. This is the case with delhi felony, the Indian thriller series that made waves when it was first released in 2019 and has firmly established itself at the top of our list of all-time favorites. It’s got everything we love in a drama: serious plot, thought-provoking real-life messages, a female lead we can’t get enough of, crime, action and more.
Which is why we’re thrilled to hear that its planned second season is on the way very soon – and a tense new trailer has just been released. Here’s everything you need to know about Crime in Delhi series two.
What is the plot of Crime in Delhi season two?
What made the series one of Crime in Delhi so haunting – yet brilliant – was the fact that it took a very real crime case that swept across India and created drama that sought to shine a light on the victims and other important current issues. That’s why it’s no surprise that it won an international Emmy award for Outstanding Drama Series.
The first series was based on the 2012 Nirbhaya case, a real-life gang rape case that took the world by storm. Due to the seriousness of the crime, the drama is one of Netflix’s heaviest series, but it’s the stunning female leads that make it a series firmly at the top of our recommendation lists.
Crime in Delhi does a great job mixing fact and fiction to unpack the larger context of being a female police officer in Delhi: systemic corruption, misogyny, underfunding. This new series already seems to be following many of those themes that we applauded as the first series explored.
In the second series, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Vartika is tasked with taking down a disturbing gang that murders people in the night. This creates a city of pure panic, as well as a media storm that demands answers. Now more than ever, these murders keep the Delhi police on their toes. But the real question is: will DCP Vartika and his team be prepared for the chaos to come? And will they be able to track down these criminals in time?
Who will play in Crime in Delhi season two?
Shefali Shah stars as DCP Vartika Chaturvedi, aka “Madam Sir”, the formidable cop who must deal with misogyny and sexism in a male-dominated police force.
The series also stars Rasika Dugal, Rajesh Tailang, Adil Hussain, Anurag Arora, Yashaswini Dayama, Sidharth Bhardwaj, Gopal Dutt, Denzil Smith, Tillotama Shome, Jatin Goswami, Vyom Yadav, and Ankit Sharma.
Is there a trailer for Crime in Delhi season two?
Netflix just released a new trailer for the second series, just weeks after the first Trailer gone viral.
In the new trailer, DCP Vartika talks about the poverty gap in Delhi, admitting, “Police in a city like this is a complex task.” When she tells a woman that her parents were killed the night before, we get a glimpse of the bloody and complicated affair ahead.
“The kind of cruel brutality on display here is something you will never see in your entire policing career,” says DCP Vartika. Not only is their deadly choice of weaponry – iron rods, hammers, axes – enough to give you chills, but also the fact that the perpetrators cover themselves in oil to (literally) escape if caught.
From the trailer alone, we know this drama is back with a vengeance – and we can’t wait. Watch it for yourself here:
