Gennadiy Golovkin plans ‘Big Drama Show’ with possible three-belt clash

Gennadiy Golovkin returns to title action at the end of the year and promises fans that another “big dramatic show” is in the works against Ryota Murata.

Looking for another historic victory, Golovkin sacked after Canelo Alvarez with a stint to super middleweight to regain one of the belts he controversially lost to the Mexican superstar.

It has been more than three years since ‘GGG’ organized two versions of a real world championship at the same time. Golovkin is now hoping to fend off Murata to add the WBA version to his IBF crown.

The victory is expected to set up a three-belt battle with WBO leader Demetrius Andrade in the spring of 2022 as the two face off on DAZN.

Golovkin, for now, is focusing only on the task at hand in Saitama on December 29.

“I’m really excited to bring the Big Drama Show to Japan. It is a country where boxing is very popular, ”Golovkin said.

“Ryōta Murata was an exceptional champion. It will be a special evening where we will meet in the ring to unify our titles.

“We’re going to give the fans a big fight,” he added.

Golovkin vs. Murata

Ed Breeze, executive vice president of rights at DAZN, didn’t mention the possibility of Golovkin facing Andrade or even Jaime Munguia, for that matter.

“What a way to end a fantastic 2021 boxing. One of the best to ever step into the ring, Gennadiy ‘GGG’ Golovkin, faces Ryōta Murata for the WBA and IBF titles.

“Ryōta Murata takes a big step forward against the middleweight king. GGG is looking to continue his reign in the division after dismantling Szeremeta the last time around.

“It will be a middleweight war. We’re excited to have the fight live on DAZN on December 29th.

Golovkin has been linked with a third installment with Canelo in May. However, there doesn’t appear to be any rush for the 39-year-old.

Still in great shape, Golovkin could easily fight up to 42 or 43 at the highest level. This gives the Kazakh puncher plenty of time to go completely unchallenged at 160 for the first time.

Facing Andrade in the spring, followed by Jermall Charlo in late 2022, may well set Golovkin for Canelo in May 2023 at a higher weight limit.

Big projects. Great dramatic show.
