Mariposa Arts Theater presents a Pulitzer-winning drama

The Gin Game, staged in MAT’s intimate Brammer Road theatre, “will take you on a hugely moving ride”

For two strangers who are on different paths, a chance encounter and a game of cards cause their worlds to collide explosively.

The Mariposa Arts Theater (MAT) is honored to bring this production to Orillia in June. Shows are scheduled for June 9 (7:30 p.m.), June 10 (7:30 p.m.), June 11 (7:30 p.m.) and June 12 (2 p.m.) The following week, shows are scheduled for June 16 (7:30 a.m.), June 17 (7:30 p.m.), June 18 (7:30 p.m.) and June 19 (2 p.m.)

According to director James Fairbairn, it’s more than a timeless story of love and loss.

“They say it’s never too late, but these two characters may be the exception. Can they recover from their tumultuous encounter? Only a sequel can answer that question. A powerful script, two actors talent and a dedicated production team will take you on an extremely moving journey,” said Fairbairn.

For more than 50 years, MAT has staged 150 live productions ranging from Chicago to Shakespeare for The Wizard of Oz. MAT is a non-profit community theater located in Orillia, providing entertainment for audiences of all ages. Key to the plot behind MAT’s success is the community support and the group’s dedicated volunteers who play key roles on both sides of the curtain.

MAT’s financial and creative success has benefited other organizations, including the historic Orillia Opera House, as well as scholarships for Orillia high school students.

One of MAT’s main fundraising events is the monthly movie night screenings. For over 18 years, entries for international film festivals have been screened at local Cineplex theatres. It was the considerable financial proceeds from these screenings that enabled MAT to realize its own dream of owning its own theater space.

In 2006, MAT’s custom-built rehearsal/performance room was ready for its own “close-up.” Located at 12 Brammer Dr. in North Orillia, the intimate 43-seat theater offers theatergoers from across the GTA and Southern Ontario world-class live entertainment just a short drive away. from their home or cottage.
