Created by Michael Hirst, Vikings is a historical war drama starring Travis Fimmel, Katheryn Winnick, and Clive Standen in the lead roles. The show was inspired by the sagas of Ragnar Lodbrok, a legendary Viking leader. Set in the Viking Age, the plot follows Ragnar’s rise from a farmer to a Norse king. His adventures are supported by his equally ambitious and brutal family. Although much of the story is believed to be true, the creators mixed the events with fictional tales for dramatic effect, which caught the audience’s attention. The show was also widely praised for its high production values, accurate character designs, and raw portrayal. Later, a spin-off series, Vikings: Valhalla, was also created in 8 episodes.

Based on a book of the same name, The Witcher is a fantasy drama series starring Henry Cavill, Freya Allan, and Anya Chalotra in the lead roles. The plot follows Geralt of Rivia, a magic-enhanced monster hunter known as the Witcher. He is bound to Crown Princess Ciri by fate and soon teams up with a quarter-elf witch, Yennefer. The three struggle against using Ciri’s Elder Blood for evil purposes, saving the world they live in. This series premiered in December 2019, and a prequel, The Witcher: Blood Origin, is in production, set 1,200 years before the events of The Witcher.

Moiraine, a member of a powerful women’s organization, searches for a group of five young villagers believing that one of them is the reincarnation of Dragon, a very powerful channeler. The Dragon Reborn is prophesied to protect the world from a primordial evil known as the Dark One, Starring Rosamund Pike, Daniel Henney, Zoe Robins and others in lead roles, this fantasy action series was developed by Rafe Judkins. The Wheel of Time is based on a series of books of the same name written by Robert Jordan.

Set in the 1st century BC, the series is based on real people from the Roman Empire and historical documents. The first season of Rome follows Julius Ceaser’s rise as dictator and his downfall. In the midst of the battle for power, the show depicts the lives of two common soldiers who play key roles in major events in Roman history. Rome was created by John Milius, William J Macdonald and Bruno Heller and stars Kevin McKidd, Ray Stevenson and Polly Walker in the lead roles.

Based on The Saxon Stories series of novels by Bernard Cornwell, The Last Kingdom was developed for television by Stephen Butchard. The Last Kingdom stars Alexander Dreyon, David Dawson, Emily Cox and others in lead roles.
