Netflix’s smash hit “Squid Game” is the first non-English drama series to be nominated for the Producers Guild of America (PGA) Awards.
PGA announced Thursday its nominations for the 33rd annual PGA Awards, which will be held on March 19 in Los Angeles. The ceremony recognizes and honors film and television producers.
“Squid Game” was nominated in the Best Episodic Drama category, the winner of which will receive the Norman Felton Award for Best Episodic Television Producer, Drama. It competes with Hulu’s “The Handmaid’s Tale”, Apple TV+’s “The Morning Show”, HBO’s “Succession” and Paramount Network’s “Yellowstone”.
Entertainment outlet Deadline reported: “[Squid Game] was the first non-English language television series to gain major recognition in the United States […] [and] became the first non-English language show to earn a PGA Award nomination.
Other Hollywood guilds, the Motion Picture Sound Editors (MPSE) Awards, Cinema Audio Society (CAS) Awards, Art Directors Guild (ADG) Awards, and Costume Designers Guild (CDG) Awards have also nominated “Squid Game”.
