State Street Theater Co. is pleased to announce its 2022 Summer Theater Camp, Honk, Jr. as this summer’s workshop production. Suitable for young performers, Honk! JR. is a heartwarming celebration of difference that is sure to delight audiences of all ages with its sparkling spirit, unique charm and memorable score. Witty and hilarious, but also deeply moving, Honk! JR. will treat you with equal parts laughter and tears.

Director-in-Residence Carrie Dabelow, a native of Rockford, Illinois, brings an incredibly talented team of people to deliver a drama experience like no other.

Drama Camp is a great opportunity for students to create a sophisticated work of art, collaborate with kids of all ages, and enjoy every minute of rehearsal. The camp will offer lessons designed to introduce students to a wide range of theater skills such as performance, design, direction, and technical theater through the lens of performance.

All of this is done by employing project-based, student-focused learning through an experience designed to challenge students academically and artistically.

Drama Camp is a half-day, three-week experience for students ages 8-17. The camp schedule begins June 20 to July 1 at 8 a.m. and ends at noon for the first two weeks of camp.

Tech Week will take place July 5-8 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Participants are requested to bring a packed lunch each day of the technology week. The camp then ends with the three performances from July 8 to 10. Attendance is mandatory for all three performances.

The cost is $20 per participant, which includes a show shirt. Scholarships are available by calling 507-359-9990. Children should wear comfortable clothes and tennis shoes with socks every day.

You can stop by the theater, located at 1 N. State St., to register your child. Please enter through Gate #7 in the rear parking lot during the hours of 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday or by calling the theater at 507-359-9990.

Registrations are open immediately and are limited to the first 35 children. All participants are cast on the show.

The theater is also looking for volunteers/parents who would be available during rehearsals, help with costumes, makeup or just be willing to supervise students during the show. All volunteers must agree to a background check.
