Straight Man: AMC Orders 2023 Drama Series Starring Bob Odenkirk – Canceled + TV Shows Renewed

You better call Saul (above) is ending but it won’t be the last time AMC viewers see Bob Odenkirk. The actor will return to the cable channel in 2023 in straight man – a new drama based on the novel by Richard Russo. Aaron Zelman and Paul Lieberstein are adapting the series for television, and eight episodes have been ordered for the first season.

AMC revealed more about the new series in a press release.

“AMC Networks today announced that it has launched a new series starring 2023 Emmy-nominated Bob Odenkirk, titled straight man, with Sony Pictures’ Television partners TriStar TV and Gran Via. The project was announced as accelerated development earlier this month ahead of AMC Networks’ initial event in New York, and it turned out to be a fast track.

Aaron Zelman and Paul Lieberstein, who adapted the project from the novel of the same name by Pulitzer Prize-winning author Richard Russo, will serve as co-showrunners. straight man will be Odenkirk’s third series on AMC, after breaking Bad and You better call Saul. Zelman, Lieberstein, Odenkirk, Peter Farrelly, who is on board to direct, Mark Johnson, Richard Russo, Naomi Odenkirk and Marc Provissiero serve as executive producers. The first season will feature eight one-hour episodes.

straight man is a midlife crisis tale set at Railton College, told in the first person by William Henry Devereaux, Jr. (Odenkirk), the unlikely chairman of the English department at a severely underfunded college in the Pennsylvania rust belt.
