The cast of Teacher: who is starring in the new Channel 5 drama alongside Sheridan Smith?

The Teacher is the latest new drama launched by broadcaster Channel 5.

Award-winning actress Sheridan Smith will star in this new psychological thriller, written by Barunka O’Shaughnessy, but the series also features a star-studded cast list.

If you’re a fan of Emmerdale, My Mad Fat Diary, Silent Witness or Ackley Bridge, you’re sure to recognize some of the familiar faces from this series on Bradford.

The controversial four-part drama – airing for four consecutive nights – follows a popular high school teacher who is accused of sleeping with one of her students – but she has no memory of the night.

Here’s the full cast list for Channel 5’s new drama starring Sheridan Smith…

The Professor’s Cast

BAFTA-winning actress Sheridan Smith will play lead character Jenna Garvey, a 30-something English teacher who has a ‘chaotic private life”.

Meanwhile, Ackley Bridge star Samuel Bottomley will play 15-year-old schoolboy Kyle Hope.

On working alongside Sheridan, Samuel said: “It was great. It was our first time working together, but as soon as I met her, she welcomed me into the cast with open arms.

“We sat down and talked about the characters and the scripts and she never left me too nervous. We had fun all the time between takes. Everyone had a great time filming the show and me and Sheridan were always laughing and joking.”

Alongside Sheridan’s character, Jenna, the teaching department will include:

Sharon Rooney’s character Nina is said to rival her colleague Jenna played by Sheridan, but Sharon revealed the pair still managed to laugh on set.

She said, “It’s kind of funny…because I’ve been staring at her all the time. [Sheridan] in every scene, but the minute they yelled ‘cut’, we laughed together.”

The teacher cast will also include:

  • David Fleeshman (It’s a Sin, All Creatures Great and Small) – Jenna’s Father

  • Sarah-Jane Potts (Casualty, Waterloo Road) – Kyle’s mother, Mary

  • Tillie Amartey (CBBC’s Chloe) – Izzy

  • Ian Puleston-Davies (Tin Star, Marcella) – Arnold/Brian
