The girls are having fun! – Beginning of the shooting of the new ABC drama series ME TURN UP THE VOLUME

Filming has begun in Melbourne on ABC ME’s latest live-action offering, Turn Up The Volume.

Produced by Matchbox Pictures and Film Camp, the ten-part series will follow a group of young, gender-diverse teenage girls who start a band at an organized music camp in Melbourne’s vibrant west.

Inspired by the coming of age documentary No time for quiet which followed the first Girls Rock! Camp in Melbourne, Increase the volume explores the power of music, friendship and creativity as forces of transformation and connection.

At first disillusioned and disconnected, this group of young teenagers come together to discover the strength to define themselves on their own terms and find their belonging in the embrace of the community.

Boasting a dazzling cast of emerging Australian talent including Riya Mandrawa like vivi, Erza James like Hex, Elaine King like ginger, Mira Russian like Breeze and Ayiana Ncube like jam. Increase the volume also features Justine Clarke, Spencer McLaren, Keith Brockett, Debra Lawrence, Dennis Coard, Kaiya Jones, Ben Chen and Madison Lu, plus a cameo from Tim Rogers.

Libbie Doherty, ABC Children’s Manager, said:

“Turn Up The Volume is a heartfelt journey through the streets of Footscray for gender-nonconforming young girls and teens. Drawing on the zeitgeist, this series explores identity, love, and the loss of teenagers face the difficulties of growing up, all through the prism of music and the creation of a group!
