The new BBC TV drama series ‘Chloe’, filmed in Burnham, will air in February

A new BBC1 primetime drama series, partly filmed in Burnham-On-Sea and Brean, is set to be watched by millions of viewers next month.

The BBC confirmed this week that the programme, titled Chloe, will be available on the BBC iPlayer from 6 February. The six hour-long episodes will also be shown on BBC One and Amazon Prime Video worldwide.

Scenes were filmed last spring on the beach at Burnham-On-Sea, outside the Burnham Pavilion, in the sea and along parts of Burnham’s south esplanade at Quantock Court and above Brean Down.

Chloe features some of the UK’s hottest young acting talent, including Erin Doherty (who starred in Netflix The crown), Billy Howe (The snake), Pippa Bennett-Warner (London Gangs) and Jack Farthing (Poldark).

Described as a “mystery about obsession, deception, identity and heartbreak”, it is overseen by creator and writer Alice Seabright (who was the director of the hit Netflix series Sex education).

The new psychological thriller was also shot in Bristol and other parts of the region by Mam Tor Productions for BBC One and Amazon Studios.

Having recently won critical acclaim for her portrayal of Princess Anne in The crown, Doherty plays Becky on the show. Still living with her mother and working as a temp, Becky compares herself to Perfect Lives on Instagram, compulsively returning to one account: Chloe’s.

Writer and director Alice Seabright, pictured below, says: “Becky is a complex and brave heroine and there is no one better to play her than Erin. All of these characters were a dream to write, and now it feels like they’ve found their kindred spirits in our incredible cast. I can’t wait to start bringing the show to life with them and with our wonderful team.

Tally Garner, Executive Producer at Mam Tor Productions, said: “Alice is an exceptionally unique talent. She built these characters from the ground up and we all love them so much. Seeing them come to life, performed by such a talented cast is beyond thrilling. They are all amazing.
