The drama unfolded during the final match between Delhi Capitals (DC) and Rajasthan Royals (RR), when the Delhi Capitals dugout registered their protest against a refereeing decision in the final. DC needed 36 runs for the final and their hopes of an unlikely win were stoked when Rovman Powell beat fellow West Indies cricketer Obed McCoy for three straight sixes from the first three deliveries. The third six came off a high, full throw from the fast left-arm bowler and the onfield umpires ruled the delivery not above the waist and did not call a no-ball, which would have given Delhi an extra race and a free one. – Hit the next ball. The Delhi dugout appeared upset that officials on the pitch did not seek the help of the TV referee to check the height of the delivery with captain Rishabh Pant seen waving his two batters off the pitch ground. Later, DC coach Pravin Amre also ran onto the field to discuss the decision with the on-field referee.

Interestingly, as fans and commentators reacted negatively to DC’s controversial behavior, Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav were involved in a separate discussion near the field. In one video, Chahal could be seen asking Kuldeep to return to the non-attacking position and the pair had a heated conversation, with Chahal also pushing Kuldeep back on the pitch.

Pant was fined his full match fee for his conduct while Amre received a one-match ban as well as a 100 per cent fine, IPL organizers announced on Saturday. Delhi all-rounder Shardul Thakur was also fined 50% of his match fee.

“It wasn’t good, but what happened with us wasn’t good either,” Pant said during the presentation when asked about his decision to send Amre to speak to the referees on the pitch. “It was just the heat of the moment, there’s not much I can do about it.”
